Cart abandonment is a term used in e-commerce to describe a visitor on a web page who leaves that page before completing the desired action, with that said we can confirm that cart abandonment is a problem.
The average E-commerce store loses over 75% of its sales to cart abandonment.
Some industries experience average cart abandonment as high as 83.6%.
Given that cart abandonment is such a problem, it is no surprise that there have been countless studies as to why visitors add items to their cart just to leave your site without making a purchase.
These are the top 6 reasons for Cart Abandonment:
34% were ‘just looking’ i.e. not ready to buy.
23% had an issue with shipping.
18% wanted to compare prices.
15% decided to buy in-store instead.
6% abandoned due to a lack of payment options.
4% experienced a technical issue.
How can you resolve this?
Fortunately, as much as 75% of lapsed buyers intend to return and complete the purchase, so it’s hugely important to capture them in the buying state of mind by offering gentle reminders of their initial intent.
A series of automated abandoned cart emails or messages ensures that your online store isn’t forgotten and capitalizes on the expressed interest.
As you may know, Facebook Messenger is one of the best ways to reach out to people because it has a very high open rate, so we are looking at 75% to 90% open rates versus 25%.
By using Facebook Messenger, you will be to able increase abandoned cart recovery by as much as 300%.
We recommend a solution, like GoBeyond, that does both email and messenger.
Facebook Messenger is a must have when it comes to recovering abandoned carts. The best way to implement a Messenger solution is by adding a 'Send to Messenger Checkbox Plugin' on every product page of your site.
The way this plugin works, is when a customer adds an item to their cart, we automatically get them subscribed to your bot via the checkbox plugin without them leaving the page. As soon as they hit the 'Add to Cart' button they are subscribed!
As a result of these ease of use, opt-ins for Messenger are 3 times higher than email. Afterall, it is much easier to checkmark a box than to type out your email. Let's take a look at what it looks like.
After the user has opted in, if they abandon their shopping cart, the GoBeyond App will automatically send them a reminder to finish their order. If the shopper does not purchase, we send up to 3 messages over Messenger and give you the ability to decide what time the messages are sent and to add a coupon to the message.
This feature is so popular that with some test stores, revenue has increased as much as 25%.
Best part is that you can implement this solution in the next 10 minutes by following our tutorial or watch the video below.
How Abandoned Cart Recovery Works:
There are a total of 3 reminders that will be sent.
You will have to set up each reminder according to your preferences.
Step 1: Decide when they should receive their 1st, 2nd and 3rd reminder.
The first reminder can be sent out 2hrs, 4hrs, or 8hrs after the cart has been abandoned.
The second reminder can be sent out the next day or two days later and the third reminder can be send two or four days after the cart has been abandoned.
We recommend selecting 2hrs for 1st reminder, 1 day for 2nd reminder and 2 days for 3rd reminder.
Step 2: Coupon Code: Make up a coupon code for this. You coupon code can be anything.
Step 3: Discount Percentage: How much of discount do you want to offer for each reminder.
We recommend starting with a small discount for first reminder and increasing it!
Chatbots and messenger marketing is the future of selling. Shopify has moved into this new direction in a really strong way.
We recommend implementing this solution and seeing how much better it works than email alone.
